Across Europe, a thriving ecosystem of creators is shaping modern culture and generating significant economic value. But while the creator economy shows robust growth, it hasn't reached its full potential. To unlock it, we must first hear from the creators themselves about the barriers they face and the opportunities they see for success.
“I run a company of 21 full time people and 35 full time equivalents. We contribute to the economy but we've been denied loans and grants, or have faced bureaucratic hurdles simply because our business model is new.”
That is why today, YouTube is launching the European Creator Consultation, a landmark survey to hear from creators across all 27 EU member states. The goal is to provide European policy-makers with the data-driven insights they need to support this crucial segment of Europe’s creative industries.
This initiative follows a successful consultation in the UK, where creator feedback became a powerful catalyst for meaningful action. The success in the UK showed that creating a bridge between creators and policymakers benefits the entire ecosystem.
“By bringing creators perspectives into the conversation, we can help ensure that the creator economy is recognised as what it has already become: a professional, innovative, and important part of Europe's media landscape.”
The European Creator Consultation will ask creators what it takes to set up businesses, develop skills, and identify barriers that are holding back this vital corner of Europe’s creative industry. The findings will culminate in a comprehensive report shared with policymakers in Brussels and across the continent, providing a roadmap to unlocking the full potential of Europe’s creator economy.
Creators are building the future of European culture and commerce. This consultation will give them a single, unified voice in guiding policies that decide the future of Europe’s creator economy.
“It's fantastic to see YouTube expanding the Creator Consultation initiative across Europe. Having been part of the UK pilot, I can say firsthand that it was a genuinely groundbreaking moment for our community.”
