Reimagine: A new AI-powered Remix tool in YouTube Shorts
Mar 18, 2026
Today, we’re introducing “Reimagine,” a new tool that gives everyone the ability to transform a single frame from an existing YouTube Short into an entirely new 8-second clip. Powered by Veo, Reimagine puts a new spin on remixing.
With just a few taps, viewers can insert themselves or objects into any eligible Short using up to two references from their photo gallery. Then, using either Gemini-suggested or custom-generated text prompts, Reimagine creates a high-quality video with audio, turning ideas into realities in no time. Every Reimagined Short links directly back to the original work, ensuring creators receive credit while expanding their reach to new audiences.
Look for Reimagine under the Remix tool on eligible Shorts to get started.

Celebrating the skill of stunt performers on YouTube
Mar 15, 2026
Stunt performers are often the unsung heroes of Hollywood’s biggest productions, but on YouTube, they take center stage. Combining gymnastics, martial arts, and engineering, creators from a variety of disciplines use both long and short-form videos to show off their incredible skills. They invite audiences in to learn the tricks of the trade and understand how to execute them safely and correctly. (But, these are professionals. Please don’t try this at home without proper safety gear, training and supervision).
Audiences are undeniably captivated by this glimpse into the magic behind the action: Ronnie Street Stunts' video "Meet The Spider-Fam" has received more than 750M views.*
On the day of the 98th Academy Awards, keep an eye out for our unique YouTube logo (also known as the Yoodle), celebrating the relentless spirit of the stunt performer community. Ready to jump into the action? Explore the art of the stunt with this playlist.

Feb 24, 2026
You asked, and we listened! Today, we’re announcing that Background Play and Downloads are coming to YouTube’s Premium Lite subscription service.
Starting today, and in the coming weeks rolling out everywhere Premium Lite is available, subscribers will be able to watch most videos ad-free, offline and in the background.
Last year, we expanded our Premium Lite pilot to more markets and heard feedback about wanting these additional features included in the service. We're excited for today's update and to continue testing and building products that best meet our users’ needs.
If you want to watch all videos ad free, offline, and in the background — including music content and YouTube Music Premium — YouTube Premium is still the best option.

YouTube enters V&A collection
Feb 18, 2026
The Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) is helping preserve and document the history and culture of the internet with its latest landmark acquisition: a reconstruction of an early YouTube watch page, featuring the first-ever upload, "Me at the zoo.”
Opening February 18 at V&A, the exhibit captures YouTube as it appeared on December 8, 2006. Developed by the museum alongside YouTube’s UX team and interaction design studio oio, the exhibit showcases the early designs of elements that continue to shape the internet today like badges, rating buttons, and sharing and recommendation features.
The 19-second clip of YouTube co-founder Jawed Karim, filmed on a low-res camera in 2005 is widely considered a foundational moment in the rise of user-generated content, enabling new modes of public self-expression, changing how media is created and consumed.
Visitors can experience this piece of history in the Design 1900–Now gallery at the V&A South Kensington, while a behind-the-scenes look at the technical reconstruction will be hosted at the V&A East Storehouse.
