As we approached America’s 250th birthday, we knew this historic milestone called for more than just a single day of fireworks. It deserved a celebration rooted in storytelling, learning, and community. Over the last six months, we’ve been hard at work making YouTube a front-row seat for this landmark national anniversary.
While we launched custom interactive features, hosted creators at historic spaceflights, and prepared for the moment in Washington, D.C., we also built a space where every American could celebrate our shared story in their own way. From the winter kick-off to the summer heat, here is a look back at how we showed up as one nation with infinite celebrations on YouTube.
Our celebrations started back in January on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. We brought together U.S. Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock and Matt Barnes, co-host of All the Smoke, for a special YouTube in Session conversation. They sat down for a candid, powerful chat about civil rights, history, and the power of progress — setting the perfect tone for months of thoughtful stories on the platform.
In February, we made it easier than ever to explore the moments that shaped our country by rolling out a custom America 250 search shelf right on YouTube. Whenever people searched for historic milestones, they found it easy to discover legendary partners like PBS, the Smithsonian, and NASA, alongside videos from educational creators like Heimler's History and Tasting History with Max Miller. It put centuries of history, science, and the making of American culture right at everyone's fingertips. Even our youngest viewers on YouTube Kids engaged in American history with an educational Presidents' Day playlist about former American presidents on YouTube Kids.

From April 1-13, 2026, over 79 million viewers tuned in to watch NASA’s complete live coverage of the Artemis II mission.
In April, we took things to a whole new level. We teamed up with NASA to celebrate the historic Artemis II Mission — the first crewed lunar flight in over half a century. When Artemis II lifted off bearing the official America 250 logo, we gave viewers a front-row seat to history.
We hosted NASA’s 10-day live mission stream, launched a custom space-themed logo on the YouTube homepage during the lunar flyby, and curated space-themed learning on YouTube Kids.
We also showed up at the launch itself, hosting a Creator Collective at the Kennedy Space Center. We brought science and engineering creators right beside the launchpad so they could share the magic of aerospace exploration directly with their fans.
We wrapped up the month by bringing that same creator spirit to the White House Easter Egg Roll, bringing together families and creators to celebrate America’s 250th together on the South Lawn.
As spring arrived, our celebrations turned to Washington, D.C.
During the White House Correspondents’ Dinner weekend, we partnered with C-SPAN and the Meridian International Center to host the high-profile "Diplomacy at 250" Reception at the historic Meridian House. The event brought together members of Congress, global ambassadors, media leaders, and top news creators like Johnny Harris.
With the arrival of June, we leaned into the vibrant energy of American sports culture. Right before the US Men’s National Soccer Team (USMNT) kicked off their opening match, we touched down in Los Angeles for the America 250 Creator Collective in LA. Partnering with Levi’s, we brought together sports and lifestyle creators to celebrate the FIFA World Cup’s return to American soil.
This unique activation blended athletic grit with heritage style, featuring a deep dive into the Levi’s archives and an acoustic performance by country artist Kevin Powers. The energy carried over to SoFi Stadium the next day, as our creators united to root for the USMNT — a true testament to the power of our collective national spirit.
To keep the momentum going, we hosted a high-energy Flag Day Creator Brunch in D.C. at the Top of the Hay during Freedom 250’s UFC weekend. The brunch brought creators, policymakers, and D.C. leaders together to celebrate the national milestone with immersive Flag Day decor and vibrant civic dialogue.

To frame this historic milestone, YouTube Music launched "Made in America" — a campaign celebrating the nation's profound musical legacy.
YouTube Music seamlessly brought together music, podcasts, and extensive video archives in a definitive tribute to American sounds This celebration also highlighted a public media ecosystem that has spent nearly 60 years documenting diverse cultural touchstones.

It was a poignant reminder of how music and public storytelling connect America’s regional cultures and communities.
All of this momentum culminated in a massive, nationwide celebration for the 250th birthday of America. We painted the platform red, white, and blue with all the festive inspiration you need to move the celebration from history books straight to your backyard.
We also made it easy to discover local fireworks streams, summer recipes, and DIY backyard guides, making YouTube the ultimate companion for backyard celebrations. This coincided with our American flag YouTube logo (aka Yoodle).
We also brought interactive fun to the national birthday with three custom Shorts effects:
