Watch Mustafa’s new mini documentary

Today, YouTube Music is premiering a new, original mini-documentary with current YouTube Artist on the Rise, Mustafa, on his own Official YouTube Channel. The six-minute short film follows the singer-songwriter as he speaks about his hometown in Canada, the making of his latest project, and his musical inspirations.

Mixed with performance clips and scenes from his community, Mustafa’s documentary gives fans a glimpse into his hometown: Regent Park, Toronto. There, the vibrant community culture -- coupled with violence -- inspired him to make the kind of music he produces today.

The film captures Mustafa’s authenticity as he speaks to his history of anxiety and how writing poetry helped him find a way to escape.

Listing fellow Canadian Joni Mitchell and folk music as his inspirations, Mustafa takes audiences through his lyrical music creation process. 

“I try to be honest, to make the pathway between me, and the story, and the emotion be completely clear,” he says.
