Meet three gaming creators who are giving back

MatPat, JackSepticEye, and DrLupo are live streaming and raising millions for charity.

MatPat, JackSepticEye, and DrLupo are getting into the holiday spirit. In November and December, the gaming creators will host their own live streams with a goal of donating millions to handpicked charities.

The events kick off on November 30, better known as #GivingTuesday, when MatPat live streams in support of St. Jude Children's Hospital. The 10-hour event will feature a live audience as well as more than 40 guest creators who collectively have more than 300 million subscribers, doing all kinds of amusing stunts, including participating in a human-sized obstacle course.

“Obviously, the goal of this stream is to raise as much money as possible on Giving Tuesday,” MatPat explained. “But over the years we've found that the stream creates positive momentum long past the the end of the day and all the way through the holiday season.” Building positive momentum is one of MatPat’s goals with the live stream and the donations can have a ripple effect since the treatments that St. Jude develops are shared around the world for free. “At the end of the day, helping St. Jude means helping kids globally, regardless of their geographic or economic background,” he says.

Then, between December 1 and 13, JackSepticEye—along with other YouTube creators and celebrities—are live streaming to raise money for 3D printed homes on behalf of New Story, which works to end global homelessness.

The effort is Jack’s biggest Thankmas to date, with a goal of $10 million. The 2020 drive raised over $4.7 million for Red Nose Day, with over $1.4 million coming from Jack's nine-hour long stream alone.

Finally, on December 18 and 19, DrLupo will host the fourth annual Build Against Cancer live stream to raise money for St. Jude, bringing his total raised to more than $10 million. He created the event as a way for the community to come together during the holidays and to embody his call to "be part of something bigger than yourself."

During the 24-hour stream, DrLupo will have friends stop by to play games while his son Charlie will teach everyone a little about science. Members of St. Jude’s will join in on the fun as well.

"This year, we're crossing the amazing milestone of raising $10 million for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital,” DrLupo said. “This demonstrates the impact that our community can make and works toward St. Jude's motto of 'No child should die in the dawn of life.'"
