The latest news we announced in October

Here’s a recap of some of our biggest updates from October, including new tools to help creators shine on TV screens and a pilot program to offer some previously terminated creators an opportunity to rebuild their presence on YouTube.

Giving some terminated creators a second chance on YouTube

As the heart of the creator economy, YouTube provides an incredible opportunity for creators to build not just an audience but a business—that’s why we introduced a pilot program to offer some previously terminated creators an opportunity to rebuild their presence on YouTube.

Rolling out likeness detection

We started rolling out our likeness detection technology to all YouTube Creators in the YouTube Partner Program. This new technology announced at Made On YouTube, helps creators monitor where their facial likeness shows up, safeguards their identity by requesting removal of unauthorized, AI-altered videos, and protects their fans from being misled.

Helping creators shine on TV screens

The number of YouTube channels earning six figures or more in revenue from TV is up 45% year over year. That’s why we announced new updates to help YouTube Creators get even more out of our fastest-growing screen. Updates include: an increased thumbnail file size limit (from 2MB to 50MB) so you can upload crisp, high-quality 4K thumbnails that pop on TV, higher resolution videos to make your entire back catalog shine (with the option to opt out), and immersive channel pages on more surfaces so viewers can find and enjoy your content more easily.

Celebrating a new music milestone

YouTube’s Global Head of Music, Lyor Cohen, shared a new music milestone: in the 12 months between July 2024 and June 2025, YouTube paid out over $8 billion to the music industry. With over 125 million Music and Premium subscribers globally (including trials) and over 2 billion logged-in viewers who watch music videos each month, as YouTube’s global footprint continues to expand, so does the potential for artists and songwriters to build long-lasting music careers and forever fans on the platform.

Spotlighting YouTube Creators in The Hollywood Reporter

In just two decades, YouTube has evolved from Me at the zoo into the world's most powerful media engine. Alongside YouTube Creators, CEO Neal Mohan was featured on the cover of The Hollywood Reporter, sharing his vision for YouTube’s future.

Introducing new mental health and wellbeing tools

When seeking information on common topics like depression or ADHD, teens in countries including the U.S., France, Mexico, Canada, and more will see a shelf of videos from trusted sources.

Improving YouTube’s look and feel

We rolled out 10 visual updates and features to improve YouTube’s look and feel. These updates make it easier to watch and navigate videos with updated controls and icons on our video player. You’ll also see a variety of fun animations on the like button based on the video you're watching and now you can keep better track of replies via threaded comments.

Continuing our partnership with APA

We introduced the next phase of our partnership with the American Psychological Association—a new, expert-vetted video series that gives parents and teens practical tools for having meaningful conversations about their online content choices, habits, and experiences.
