Today, we're announcing the expansion of multi-language audio to millions of creators over the coming weeks. Now, when a YouTube creator in the U.S. releases a new video, within moments a fan in Korea, a fan in Brazil, and a fan in India can all watch it in their native language.
On average, creators uploading Multi-language Audio tracks to their videos saw over 25% of their watch time come from views in the video’s non-primary language.
Two years ago, that goal was at the heart of our multi-language audio pilot, which enabled a small group of creators to add their own dubs in multiple languages. Since then, we’ve seen the impact this can have — on average, creators uploading Multi-language Audio tracks to their videos saw over 25% of their watch time come from views in the video’s non-primary language.¹ We’ve even begun piloting multi-language thumbnails with a select group of creators, giving them the opportunity to add localized thumbnails based off of viewers’ selected language.
On chef Jamie Oliver’s channel, using multi-language audio tracks amplified views by 3x. And some of our most well known creators, like MrBeast and Mark Rober, are now reaching millions more viewers in new corners of the world. Mark Rober has some of the highest number of multi-language audio dubs uploaded, averaging over 30 languages per video, so his community of fans from Seoul to São Paulo can enjoy his latest video at the same time.
We recently sat down with creator Chef Nick DiGiovanni, who has been a part of our pilot and has expanded his global audience as a result of using multi-language audio. He told us more about the impact it's having on his channel now that he can reach viewers in Spanish, Turkish, Vietnamese, Russian, Arabic, and beyond.
