I have to make highly produced, longer videos to have a shot at making sustained revenue on YouTube.

That's right — we see lots of different types of creators succeeding on YouTube, whether they’re making studio-quality longer videos, or sharing personal, off-the-cuff clips right from their phones. If I want to be successful on YouTube, I should make content around what’s popular and getting the most views on YouTube right now.

When you’re thinking about starting your own YouTube channel, really think about what special interests you have and you’ll have an easier time finding an audience. What’s a topic you can’t stop talking about to the point it drives your friends & family crazy? There’s probably an audience for that.

You sure know your stuff! While there are different eligibility thresholds for creators applying for YPP with either their Shorts or their longer videos, once you’ve unlocked ads revenue sharing on YouTube, videos across your channel - Shorts or otherwise - will be eligible to monetize!
