So far this year, there have been more than 25 billion views of videos with “unboxing” in the title.¹

Sure, you know you ordered something online and followed the tracking information every step of the way, but there’s still something especially exciting about opening a package and trying out a product for the first time. That anticipation of seeingwhat’s inside has inspired an increasingly popular trend on YouTube where creators unbox everything from tech items to stationary to mystery boxes. It’s also the inspiration for today’s temporary YouTube logo (known as a Yoodle) designed by Ege Soyuer, a multidisciplinary artist based in Los Angeles who uses playful graphics and surprising animations in his work, which was perfect for capturing that flash of excitement that unboxing brings.

There’s also a strong connection between popular unboxing content that appeals to viewers seeking out ASMR. With no voiceover, nothing is lost in translation, and you can just enjoy the crinkling of plastic, tapping on cardboard, and clicking of buttons as an item is revealed.
