Picture perfect: celebrating creators who capture a photo a day

Today, we’re celebrating the ways creators continue to take part in the photo-a-day trend with a special, animated version of the YouTube logo (known as the Yoodle).

Photo-a-day creators are redefining what it looks like to chronicle their lives through video. By stitching together individual photos — often ones taken from the same angle or with the same facial expression — over a consecutive period of time, these creators turn single selfies into meaningful autobiographical narratives.

Photo-a-day videos date back to the early days of YouTube’, when creators such as Noah Kalina and Ahree Lee set the foundations for the trend. Over the years, others have expanded on the concept, using it to document all manners of life changes, from hair growth to pregnancies. These mesmerizing videos, which utilize a timelapse-style format, are just as compelling whether they’re capturing 4 years’ worth of transformations or 25, across Shorts or in longform. Even those that were uploaded years ago continue to captivate viewers: Hugo Cornellier’s video "AGE 12 TO MARRIED — I Took A Photo Every Day" has received more than 5 million views in 2024 so far.1

On this day 18 years ago, Noah Kalina uploaded his iconic video “Noah takes a photo of himself every day for 6 years”, which has received more than 27 million views. Today, we’re celebrating the ways creators continue to take part in the photo-a-day trend with a special, animated version of the YouTube logo (known as the Yoodle).
